Uncover the meaning of Judo, its core values, and the significance of belt colors below
The term “Judo” means “the gentle way” or “the way of gentleness.” This reflects its philosophy of using an opponent’s strength against them. Judo emphasizes balance, leverage, and technique over brute force, promoting both physical and mental discipline.
The philosophy of Judo is founded on two key principles: seiryoku zenyo (maximum efficiency with minimum effort) and jita kyoei (mutual benefit and prosperity). These principles guide every movement and decision, promoting not only physical skill but also ethical behavior and community harmony.
In Judo, each belt color symbolizes a stage of progress and experience. The journey starts with white, representing purity and the beginning, and progresses to black, symbolizing proficiency and maturity. The colors—white, yellow, orange, green, blue, brown, and black—reflect the practitioner’s growth and achievements in mastering the art.
At TFFJW, since 2007, we align ourselves with the principles and values of the founder of Judo, Sensei Kano. These include family, respect, honor, loyalty, attitude, and discipline. We aim to instill these values in our students and equip them with the skills and confidence to face life’s challenges with discipline and courage, cultivating a sense of community and purpose in every class.
Our Fuji mat provides a safe and fun environment for children to build strength, develop skills, and become champions.

What our clients says about us
Total Form Judo has been a fantastic experience for us! Leo is unbelievably patient and kind to our son. We have watched our son build skill and confidence. We’re in it for the long haul, and we’re very appreciative of Leo and his family guiding us along the way!
This is a fantastic martial arts school. I have been enrolled in the adult class since it’s inception, and my kids have been going for about 1 year. The beginner kids class has helped mine to learn self-discipline, hard work, boost their confidence, and get into shape at the same time. They have also had the opportunity to make new friends. The instructors are well versed in their craft and work with kids on a regular basis, helping them to learn judo in a controlled and safe environment, with an emphasis on having fun.
Since my daughter started judo, I have seen a huge difference in her behavior. She is more focused. She is confident, more focused and can control her emotions a lot better. Sensei Leo is very patient, very loving but shows discipline to the kids. We love Totally Form Fitness judo!!! Can’t wait to enroll my second kid ! She is only 3, and I’m counting the days for her to be 4.
TFFJW has an amazing program for a very reasonable price, my 6 and 10-year-old kids always enjoyed going to it. Sensei Leo is very patient and loves what he does.
